Westlake is a city and the 39th municipality in Palm Beach County, Florida, United States. The population was 906 at the 2020 census.

The Incorporated City of Westlake is located west of Royal Palm Beach and north of Loxahatchee Groves. The city started development after Minto Communities purchased 3,800 acres for $51 million. They later added 200 more acres. It became the 39th city in Palm Beach County in 2016. The city was named in part as a nod to Weston in neighboring Broward County, a similar large-scale community planned by a developer in the 1980s. In November, 2019, Wellington Regional Medical Center purchased 35 acres for $12.3 million to establish a presence in the community. Westlake also has large scale Solar Power plant operated by FP&L ( Florida Power and Lighting )

Police protection is provided by District 18 of the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office. The city is staffed with 5 Road Patrol Deputies. In addition, the district receives support from the Traffic Division, K-9, Aviation and Community Policing. District 18 headquarters is located in the county administrative building in Royal Palm Beach.

As of the 2020 United States census, there were 906 people residing in the city.

Fire and EMS service is provided by Station 22 of Palm Beach County Fire Rescue. It is home to six uniformed personnel 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

According to the Wikipedia
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pahok... Pahokee is a city located on the shore of Lake Okeechobee in Palm Beach County, Florida, United States. The population was 5,649 in the 2010 census.

Pahokee was incorporated in 1922. The name "Pahokee" means "grassy waters" in the Creek language. Local residents refer to Pahokee as "The Muck", which signifies the mineral-rich dark soil in which sugar cane, citrus fruits, and corn are grown by agribusinesses. In the 1930s, it was known as the "Winter Vegetable Capital of the World".

The city was severely affected, as were the other communities to the south of the lake, by the 1928 Okeechobee hurricane. Hurricane Wilma, in 2005, destroyed a newly built marina.

Pahokee was founded on the produce grown in the muck, the fertile bottom of the Everglades after part of it was drained in the early 20th century. In 1939, the Federal Writers' Project guide said of Pahokee: "From Christmas until April, Pahokee is a 24-hour town; long trains of refrigerated cars roll out for northern markets day and night." "The streets are noisy and crowded; bars, restaurants and gambling places are never closed."

In 1963, with access to Cuban sugar restricted, a sugar plant was built, and agriculture shifted to the mechanized crop of sugar cane. The plant closed in 2009.

As a result, it is one of two Palm Beach County cities—the other is South Bay—on a list of 13 Florida municipalities in "a state of financial emergency."[when?] Records[which?] suggest it has been on the list continually since 1994. Unemployment exceeds 25%. Taxable property values dropped from about $99 million in 2007 to $66 million in 2014. Dissolution of the city has been proposed.
