In August 2025 women’s organisations fighting for women’s rights and dignity for over three decades and individuals committed to gender equality came together to launch the campaign “Kondavaru Yaaru? Who Killed the Women in Dharmasthala? The purpose of this campaign that has now become a statewide movement was to demand a comprehensive investigation into all past disappearances, unnatural deaths, rapes and murders of women in the Dharmasthala region as per the order that constituted the SIT. The purpose was also to expose the systemic failures and impunity that have shielded the real perpetrators over decades and to stand with the affected families in their fight for justice.
Several activities have been initiated as part of this movement to put pressure on the Government to ensure a free and fair investigation and on the SIT to fulfil its mandate rigorously and professionally. On November 1st, on the occasion of Kannada Rajyotsava, we launched a signature and postcard campaign across the state through engaging in dialogues with people in colleges, labor unions, self-help groups, villages etc while collecting signatures.
It is in this connection we write now to inform and invite you to two landmark events taking place that mark a critical stage in the journey of this movement.
December 10t, 2025, Gandhi Bhavan, Bangalore 3.00 pm
On the occasion of Human Rights day, to mark the culmination of the signature campaign, we will be submitting all the collected signatures to the government through the Chairperson of the Women's Commission, Nagalakshmi Chowdhury who will be the special guest. On this occasion a booklet brought out by the movement highlighting some critical concerns related to this issue will be released by the renowned filmmaker Kavitha Lankesh.
December 16, 2025, Belthangady
Marking the 13th anniversary of the Nirbhaya case on December 16 which is also observed nationwide as Anti-Rape Day we will be holding a Women's March and Convention for Justice in Belthangady for which women will be coming from all over the State . The purpose is to break the culture of silence on a systemic violence while opening up spaces for women to talk for justice and dignity.
Your presence at and coverage of both these events will strengthen the voices of survivors and their families and amplify the demand for truth and justice.
