A Crisis-on-Top-of-a-Crisis: You can’t shelter at home if you don’t have a home. In these pandemic times in which we are living, people have banded together to provide massive amounts of groceries to the general public by drive through giveaway events.
However, the neediest among us, the ever increasing number of homeless people, are not being served. Therefore, a group of nonprofit local organizations decided to join forces with Changing Lives to serve the homeless community with a distribution event specially geared towards them.
We can’t do this without you. It was a joy and an honor to partner with the following nonprofit organizations in an effort to help the underprivileged community of Boca Raton. Thank you for being a part of Changing Lives of Boca Raton:
• REV. TONY NEAL AND TIFFANY PATERSON OF HOMELESS HEARTS FOOD INTERNATIONAL
• WAYNE BARTON OF WAYNE BARTON STUDY CENTER
• RAY RAPAGLIA OF THE JAMES CLUB
• JEANNE LEWIS OF SHOWERING LOVE
• KRISTIE MESSER OF ON MY OWN
• PROJECT CARE –A SISTER ORGANIZATION OF HOMELESS HEARTS FROM VIDALIA, GEORGIA
• MS. BANU OF IMG HEALTH CLINIC
• SHAY OF SHAY’S KITCHEN AND CATERING COMPANY
• JOHNNY AND SHERRY PALMER OF J.H.A.A.N.D.
• SHAKKA KENT OF SIMPLY HEALTH CARE
• REV. CHARLES COCKLIN OF BREAKING CHAINS
• DR. ARTHUR OF HOMELESS HEARTS, HARBOUR VIEW HOUSE, AND THE SANCTUARY CHURCH – ARTHUR KANEV
A heartfelt thanks goes out to our Florida Representative Mike Caruso, the City of Boca Raton, the Boca Raton Police Department, and Investments Limited who contributed to the realization of this special distribution event. Their compassion towards those in need are very important to help us transform individual lives and our communities. They remind us that everyone has a vital role to play in combating homelessness - State, County, Cities, community providers, the business sector, academic institutions, foundations, faith-based organizations, and the community at large.
The event followed the CDC and Palm Beach County guidelines at all times during the duration of the distribution of food and essential items. Facial Coverings were mandatory for all attendees including volunteers, except while actively consuming food and beverage. Volunteers enforced the usage of masks by patrolling the premises and all participants were asked to wear a facial covering when entering, exiting, while at their assigned chairs, including when visiting the restroom. We provided hand sanitizer, masks and gloves as well.
Volunteers reminded all event participants to practice Social Distancing. Even while wearing facial coverings, all participants were required to maintain six feet of social distancing, including while waiting to be served food and a “Bucket of Love”.
For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me. Matthew 25:35-36 NLT
