Описание: Malaysia’s multi-billion dollar palm oil industry is suffering from an acute labor shortage made worse by the pandemic, which has seen the exit of even more of the foreign workers the industry relies on. Malaysia’s government, meanwhile, has imposed a freeze until at least the end of the year on any more migrant workers entering the country. It’s forcing the industry to look at locals, including prison parolees, to try to fill some of the shortfall. Rian Maelzer (PRON. RYAN MELT-zer) reports from Carey Island, Malaysia.
