HOW TO MAKE A SENTENCE | Learn Romanian Vlog #10
Cum formăm o propoziție simplă. How to form a simple sentence
Hi. This is Mihnea. Welcome to Romanian Hub, the Ultimate Romanian Language Learning Portal.
In this episode of Learn Romanian Vlog, we’ll look at how you can form the simplest sentence in Romanian. This topic is a request from one of you who wanted to know more about how to form sentences in Romanian.
There are no fixed rules on how to make a sentence in Romanian, but here’s a basic template on how you can make the simplest sentences in Romanian.
The template is as follows: subject + predicate. That’s it.
Now, let’s see some examples.
Let’s start with a declarative sentence (making a statement).
Ion mănâncă.
John is eating.
Let’s make this sentence imperative (giving a command).
Ion, mănâncă!
John, eat!
How about an interrogative sentence? (asking a question)
Ion mănâncă?
Is John eating?
And an exclamatory sentence. (expressing excitement)
Ion, mănâncă!
John, eat.
As you can see in these examples, we literally had the same sentence structure, subject + predicate, but we conveyed the meaning using various intonations.
Falling intonation for a declarative sentence:
Ion mănâncă.
John is eating.
By speaking up as if giving a command for an imperative sentence:
Ion, mănâncă!
John, eat!
Rising intonation for an interrogative sentence:
Ion mănâncă?
Is John eating?
Rising intonation for an exclamatory sentence.
Ion, mănâncă!
John, eat.
And, before we wrap this lesson, let’s make this sentence negative by simply adding the word “nu” in front of the predicate.
Ion nu mănâncă.
John is not eating.
And that’s the end of Learn Romanian Vlog. Cum formăm o propoziție simplă. How to form a simple sentence. Now it’s your turn! Try to make a simple sentence in Romanian and add it in the comments section below. And, don’t forget to SUBSCRIBE. In that way you won’t miss the next episode.
