In this video, I will walk you through how to install this adapter plate designed to orient the Mitsubishi Montero, Pajero, or Shogun 3.8L ignition coil on the Mitsubishi eclipse 3.8L valve cover. This is to prevent strain and damage to the wiring harness or the spark plug wire as well as secure the coil from vibrating and popping out of place.
The Mitsubishi Montero valve covers are usually stamped steel. these are prone to warpage and causing oil leaks due to heat and over torque. frequently removing and reassembling the valve covers increase the likelihood of valve cover oil leakage.
A drop in OEM to OEM solution is to take the valve covers found in the Mitsubishi Eclipse or the Mitsubishi Galant equipped with the 3.8L 6G75 engine. this engine has a cast aluminum valve cover which is more robust, sturdy, and resilient than the stamped steel VC found on the Montero.
You must retain the bolts for the stamped aluminum valve cover as they are longer. you must also use the gasket for that cast aluminum valve cover as well so save that vin off the donor care for part references later.
The driver's side is a straightforward install, however the passenger side valve cover will require modifications to fit due to obstruction from the EGR tube connecting mount.
