The 2017 edition organised by Paulus Foundation held a premiere of an oratorio written by renowned Italian composer Mgr Marco Frisina. The concert was conducted by Mgr Marco Frisina himself while conducting the Malta Philarmonic Orchestra. This Oratorio was commissioned by the Paulus Foundation in order to commemorate the martyrdom of St Paul and it has also been included in the cultural programme of Malta’s EU presidency during 2017.
This oratorio was heard for the first time on Thursday 9th February 2017 at St Paul’s collegiate church in Rabat with a second concert on Saturday 11th February 2017 at St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta. Together with this oratorio, both concerts will also premiere a cantata by Maltese composer Christopher Muscat. This cantata is inspired from a poem by Malta’s national poet Dun Karm about St Paul’s Shipwreck.
