Every year MovieMaker releases its list of the Best Places to Live and Work as a Moviemaker. This year we were also honored to host some of the locations on that list at a special Sundance 2026 panel on how they became so film friendly.
The panel includes:
Fort Worth, Texas film commissioner Taylor Hardy, whose office works with major Taylor Sheridan productions like LANDMAN and SPECIAL OPS: LIONESS, as well as many other projects. Fort Worth is No. 12 on our list of the Best Places to Live and Work as a Moviemaker in the big cities category.
Massachusetts Film Office director Meg Jarrett, whose office has worked with films including BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER and the recent Best Picture winner CODA. Boston is No. 8 on our list in the big cities category.
Santa Fe, New Mexico film commissioner Jennifer LaBar-Tapia, whose office has worked with projects including DARK WINDS and the recent Best Picture winner OPPENHEIMER. Santa Fe has been No. 1 in our smaller cities and towns category for four consecutive years.
Garrett Patten, founder of TBK productions and producer, co-director and star of the new thriller SELF CUSTODY, who provides an indie filmmaker's perspective on where to shoot.
Owen Egan, co-CEO of CineSpace, which owns six premier studio facilities in locations in the U.S. and Germany, including in two of our top big cities, Toronto and Chicago.
