Sonic 2 GG Best Ending Speedrun in

Описание: Sonic 2 for the Game Gear is a game notorious for many children never getting past the first zone. It's a game that I find very natural to play though, so I figured I'd finally speedrun this version.

Best Ending means getting all the Chaos Emeralds throughout the game and finishing the final Crystal Egg Zone to trigger the Best Ending.

I've run the Master System version in the past, which is nearly identical. However there are some differences between the games, and pretty much all of them make this version harder and/or worse for running.

A big difference is simply the screen is smaller in this version, meaning you've got less vision. This makes most notably all the bosses worse and harder too. Some of the bosses also have additional difficulty/randomness in them too.

There are also some very minor differences in some of the stages (Life Jump in GH1 and SE2 Corner Clip Spike Jump are not possible in this version), I also feel like lag is more random in this version (definitely is in AL2), and I also feels like this version has more dropped inputs which sucks.

Another difference is that while the SMS version can be timed with IGT, in this version the timer disappears on the bosses for no god damn reason, so instead has to use the more complicated RTA-TB timing method, because pure RTA is simply not an option because of the extremely long Time Bonus. Not only that, but the time bonus countdown is not completely consistent speed wise either, so it needs to be frame counted to get the right time.

Anyway about this run - was pretty decent. Two stages had significant time loss to execution - SE2 and CE2. SE2 was a dropped input on the second jump, nothing I could do about that, and then got a very unfortunate corner clip which meant I'd taken damage and had to take the platform after as a result because no rings. In CE2 I simply got first frame roll jump after the ramp to miss the corner clip which was quite costly.

Luck was about average throughout, got lucky ramp, slightly above average lag luck in AL2, slightly above average on GH3 boss, didn't get fast platform SE1, above average SE3 boss, didn't get lucky blocks on CE2. Overall this is good enough for now, there's still some more seconds that could be taken off with a godly run, but this is still pretty good. I actually think it's technically the any% record too, despite the extra time taken to get the emeralds (I should probably do an actual any% run to fix that...)
