DJ Hype + MC's: Power, Warren G & Det
Drum&Bass Arena @ The Republic
Adam F 'Drum and Bass Warfare' Album Launch Party
Venue: The Republic, Sheffield, UK.
Date: Wednesday November 6th 2002
A few scratches could be heard through the superb sound system in The Republic, then MC Power announced "Whose ready the DJ Hype!!!!", and everyone knew it was time to get grimey. Opening up with what sounded like a new remix of the jungle classic 'Mash Up', the crowd screamed instantly for the rewind & Mr.Hype obliged. A few more heavy rollers followed, and then he dropped the Dillinja remix of Shy Fx & T Power's 'Don't Wanna Know', which literally shook the dancefloor to it's knees. A few dubs & scratches later, and Hype dropped Zinc's huge 'Ska Vs Shake Ur Body' dub, which received a great reaction from the crowd. MC Power then stepped aside for Leicester's MC Warren G to take control of the mic, and he continued to hype (pardon the pun!) up the crowd, whilst Hype was unrelenting with his audio onslaught, dropping Dillinja's massive anthem 'Twist 'Em Out.
A huge figure could now be seen on the MC platform alongside Warren G, as I made my way closer to the stage I could see the crowd pointing, and then a booming voice said 'Wo yeah wo yeah listen DJ Hype he is a boss DJ', and that voice belonged to the one & only MC Det. Even though Skibadee had been booked, the crowd went totally wild for Det, this night was just getting better & better.
Bad Company's dancefloor killer 'Torpedo' then graced the decks, followed by Roni Size & Die's new mix of 'LK', and then Hype did an outstanding mix with 'The Truth' (Remix) & 'The Nine', which just has to be heard again & again on the archives. MC Det then announced that the next record would be the last one from Hype, and you just knew that the True Playa' would end this amazing set in style, and he did just that, by playing another great Dillinja dub currently doing the rounds, yes it was that bassline killer 'Live Or Die', over which he played his own special version of 'Original Nuttah'.
