Hip External Rotation PAILs and RAILs is one of my favourite ways to improve hip mobility while also building strength and control at end range.
Use this exercise to open up your deep outer hip, and own that position.
In this video, I’ll show you how to use this drill to work on active hip external rotation, challenge your 90/90 position, and develop better ownership of your mobility rather than relying only on passive stretching.
This can be helpful for anyone looking to move better, feel less stiff through the hips, or add more intentional mobility work into their routine.
Remember:
• Stay in a range you can control
• Use strong but manageable effort
• Avoid pushing into sharp pain
