El Azhar Park; One of the largest Public Spaces in Cairo

This park opened its gates to the public in 2005 and it was considered different due to the historical gem that was discovered in it and which was the Ayyubid Wall and towers and which are now considered part of the park; this wall shed the light on Al-Darb Al-Ahmar, one of the poorest areas in Cairo, which is attached to El Azhar Park.

This place is not much related to the history of Egypt but it is interesting to visit it because it shows the Islamic designs and gives you the chance to walk through the green areas which are not much found in the ordinary streets of Egypt, just make sure that you are visiting this park during the days of the week because weekends are usually too crowded.

There might be some negative things about the place and which are related to the guards who could ban you from sitting in specific green areas, but other than that, the place is really a recommendation and a must if you have the time and at the same time want to experience a new kind of restaurant and atmosphere.

Salah Al Din Citadel is so close to Al Azhar Park, only 5 minutes drive away, so you could always visit the citadel and Muhammad Ali mosque (   • Muhammad Ali Mosque, Cairo; An Old Histori...  ) and then go to the park in order to rest, eat good food, and all with a good view.

El Azhar Park is not found in the downtown (   • Downtown Cairo; The Place of the Historica...  ) like most of the other attractions that one could visit in Egypt, but it is located in Salah Salem street, which is one of the most famous found in Egypt and which links El-Darb El-Ahmar, the old place of El Hussien, and other areas with Heliopolis.

The working hours of this park are everyday of the week from 9 Am until 10 PM, except the weekend it opens until 11 PM. The Entrance fees are very cheap, it only costs 5 Egyptian pounds during the days of the week and 7 Egyptian pounds during the weekend, which will give you the permission needed to enter the place and choose any of the restaurants found there.

This is considered a beautiful place which we recommend during your stay in Cairo, Egypt, because it will help you to relax for part of the day and now we could also say that it will give you the permission to see the discovered historical Ayyubid wall that was built by Salah El Din years and years back.
