President Fidel V. Ramos | "I will not proclaim martial law" (1997)

Описание: In September 1997, amidst widespread protests, Philippine President Fidel V. Ramos (Second President of the Fifth Republic - 1992-1998) went on national television in order to allay fears that he was attempting to amend the 1987 Constitution to extend his stay in office. He also used the prime-time address to reject claims by his critics that he was considering the imposition of martial law over the entire country.

Ramos would step down in June 1998 and transfer power to his successor, President-elect Joseph Estrada, pursuant to the provisions of the Constitution.
