The Thrikkariyoor Mahadeva Temple near Kothamangalam, Ernakulam is more than just a place of worship; it is a living monument to Kerala's rich heritage. Often referred to as the "Adi Chera" capital, this temple is historically significant as the presumed seat of the ancient Chera dynasty.
According to mythology, it holds the prestigious title of being the 108th and final Shiva temple consecrated by Lord Parasurama. The presiding deity, Thrikkariyoorappan, is worshipped as a manifestation of Sankaranarayana, beautifully blending the energies of Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu.
The temple’s architecture is a classic example of Kerala style, featuring a magnificent rectangular, two-storied Sreekovil (sanctum sanctorum) topped with copper plates. It is also the spiritual home of the traditional art form Sangha Kali. Set against a serene backdrop with a massive sacred pond, the temple offers a profound sense of peace and a deep connection to Kerala's regal and spiritual past.
