On the night of August 8, 1975, people rushed to pile sandbags to the top of Ban Kieu dam, Ha Nam province amid the worst storm ever recorded to hit the area. They are racing against the rapidly rising water in the Nhu River to save the Ban Kieu Dam and millions of people sleeping downstream. It was a race they were about to lose.
Around 1 a.m., the sky was clear, the stars peeking out from the storm clouds. There was a strange stillness when someone shouted, "The water level is falling! The flood is receding".#China
