I Made Reversible Regency Stays Out of an Old Dress!

Описание: In this video, I walk you step by step through how I made a pair of Regency long stays--using only materials in my stash, including an old, stained dress that was no longer wearable! Not only are these stays comfortable, cute, and low cost, but I also made them reversible by setting in the lining last and making just a few simple modification to the commercial pattern instructions.

In addition to them being upcycled from an old dress and reversible, this particular stays pattern--from Redthreaded (link below)--are good for the years 1805-1830. Which means they're versatile and span a full 30 years of costuming. A multitasker if I ever did see one!

These stays are super comfortable and I love them! Despite a few weird quirks of the pattern--which I explain in the video--I'm happy with the way they've turned out, and I'm excited to share my completed project with everyone!

Stays, the precurser to corset, had changed much by the beginning of the 19th century. Gone was the heavy, structured boning and conical shape of the mid-18th century. Instead, these stays are only lightly boned, and give almost a completely natural shape, except for an elevated bust quintessential to the fashions and styles of the early 1800's.

Despite all the complaining of actresses in movies and the recent articles regarding the poor actresses in Bridgerton, these stays are quite comfortable and easy to move around in.

This is the first part of my Regency Zombie series, where I'm making a Pride and Prejudice and Zombie-inspired outfit to wear to the tea at Costume College 2022.
