Inverloch is a place where you walk on dinosaurs...
We spent a couple of days in Inverloch, Victoria, Australia walking the beach and enjoying some summer weather. I took the Ricoh GR IIIx and the Lomo Sprocket Rocket with me, taking photos and searching for dinosaur traces near the famous Dinosaur Dreaming site. This stretch of coastline is known for its Early Cretaceous fossils, ancient riverbeds turned to rock, where fragments of bones, plants, and traces of small polar dinosaurs have been found locked into the cliffs and platforms.
🦖 About the fossils at Inverloch (for the curious):
This coastline near Inverloch is one of Australia’s most important dinosaur fossil sites. Around 120 million years ago (Early Cretaceous), this area was part of a cold, polar river system. Over time, those ancient riverbeds hardened into rock, preserving fragments of small dinosaurs, plants, fish, and ancient ecosystems in the cliffs and rock platforms.
The nearby Dinosaur Dreaming site is famous for discoveries of small-bodied polar dinosaurs, animals that lived in long periods of darkness near the Antarctic Circle. Fossils are still locked in the rock here, but collecting is protected and restricted, so this video is about looking, learning, and imagining, not digging.
It’s a place where photography, geology, and deep time collide, and where a quiet beach walk can suddenly feel very, very old.
