Footage of a ship locking through the Davis Lock from Lake Superior and the Welcome Arch in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario that once greeted tourists getting off the ferry between the two Saults at the foot of Brock St. Now Foster Drive. Soo Outfitters is briefly seen as well.
Built in 1938, the arch would be dismantled in 1964 after the ferry was made obsolete by the opening of the International Bridge in 1962.
In July 2011, it was restored in a local partnership between Essar Steel Algoma Inc., The SSM Rotary Club, M.R. Knight & Associates Co. Ltd. MGP Architects & Engineers Inc., Top Line Electric Ltd. and the City of Sault Ste Marie.
The video was shot sometime in the 1940s.
