The velocity ratio of any machine may be found by dividing the distance through which the effort moves by the vertical distance through which the load is raised. As with all other machines the velocity ratio of an inclined plane is calculated from its dimensions.

an inclined plane is a plane which enables on to lift loads to a certain height without having to lift it vertically above to the height where it is required. An effort is applied along the inclined plane and as the effort moves through the distance, the load distance is vertical. The video shows how the analogy leads to the formula for velocity ratio of an inclined plane hence a worked example to further illustrate.
