STAYING AT MORAINE LAKE LODGE (Banff National Park, Alberta)

Описание: If you are planning a trip to the Canadian Rockies, then Moraine Lake is a stop not to be missed!

Moraine Lake, Alberta, is one of the most iconic lakes of Canada. When you type ‘Canada’ into Google search, picturesque images of Moraine Lake are some of the first you will come across. Famous for its beautiful turquoise coloured water, stunning hikes, including the Larch Valley Trail, and memorable sunrises, Moraine Lake is considered the ‘jewel of the rockies.’ Moraine Lake is located in the Canadian Rockies in Banff National Park and it will take you about 2.5 hours to get here from Calgary however, actually accessing the lake itself can be quite difficult.

Parks Canada controls access to Moraine Lake Road, in an effort to reduce the number of vehicles frequenting the area. The traffic that goes to this area is insane! Lake Louise has approximately 15, 000 visitors per day so you can just imagine…..If you are staying at Moraine Lake Lodge, like we did, you will be given an access pass which allows you to drive up the road, however, without that pass you have a couple of options.

Firstly, rise at the crack of dawn and drive up the road before the car park is full and Parks Canada closes the road (keep in mind that the road was already closed at 4am when we visited - luckily we had that access pass)! Secondly you can use the Moraine Lake shuttle service. This park and ride service is provided by Parks Canada for a small fee and can be booked at the website here https://reservation.pc.gc.ca/Home.aspx or by giving them a call. We highly recommend you book this shuttle in advance due to limited availability each day. The Moraine Lake shuttle will also take you to Lake Louise. This car park also fills up very early; we were there at 6:30am in the Summer and it was nearly full. You can check out our Lake Louise - Lake Agnes Tea House video.

Here is our suggested itinerary. Start your day with watching the sunrise at Moraine Lake from the rock pile; this is the best viewpoint for Moraine Lake. If you are here in September then you definitely need to walk the Larch Valley Trail and experience the incredible yellow Fall foliage (tip - make sure you touch the foliage, trust us, the texture is beautiful). After the trail, grab some lunch from the Moraine Lake Cafe and sit by the water and enjoy the incredible views. After lunch it's time for a canoe. Paddling out on the turquoise water is simply magical. Canoes can be hired for one hour at a cost of $130 CAD + tax (which is cheaper than the Lake Louise price tag of $145 - 2022 pricing). After your paddle it is time to check into Moraine Lake Lodge where you can enjoy afternoon tea in the library and a drink on your patio entrance or balcony overlooking the lake. Dinner in the Walter Wilcox Dining Room will see you full and amazed by their three course dining experience. In the evening it is time to wind down and enjoy the luxuries of your room and most importantly reminisce all the memories you have made.
