Carl Sonny Leyland plays Vernon Delhart's "The Prisoner's Song" during the UK Boogie Woogie Club night in February 2013. The original by Dehart was recorded over a hundred years ago, as Sonny says, it "goes a long way back".
The UK Boogie Woogie Clubs were held each month in Sturminster Newton and helped raise funds for the annual festival each July.
The festival initially took place in the village hall at Fontmell Magna in Dorset but eventually moved to Sturminster Newton.
The festival attracted some of the finest boogie woogie pianists from the UK, Europe and America. Star performers included Little Willie Littlefield, Bob Seeley, Jean Pierre Bertrand and Axel Zwingenberger. The festival was the brainchild of pianist Julian Phillips assisted by Jo O'Connell.
sadly, despite it's popularity, the festival was another victim of Covid-19 and could no longer continue.
