This underrated gem was one of my favorite songs of 1982, and it's by the group Gary's Gang that was formed in Queens, New York by musicians Eric Matthew and Gary Turnier. The group had some hits on the Dance charts during the late 1970s, and returned during the 1980s with the same distinctive sound they established in their previous work, blending smooth vocals and synths with tinkly percussion, and the arrangements used here are just lovely. "Knock Me Out" went to #25 on Billboard's Dance chart in 1982, and while the single didn't enter the Hot 100, it made the Top 50 on the UK Pop chart, peaking at #45 -- and it's another single that I thought deserved to be a bigger hit.
