Discussion on a few tire options for the Panigale V4. Why it is possible to run a more common 200/55 sized tire, but not ideal. There is another 200/60 option as of mid-year 2019 which is much better than the OEM tire!
I wore out the OEM Pirelli Supercorsa V3 200/60-17 tire pretty quickly after less than 1000 street miles and a few hours of racetrack laps. That tire is expensive as well. I switched to Pirelli Supercorsa SC2/SC2 slicks and had much better results on the track. I also tried an SC1 rear tire which worked well and probably sticks better but it wears out quicker which makes me like the SC2 rear better. I never tried a different front tire.
After this I tried the Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa tire in 200/55 since it doesn't come in the proper 200/60 size. It's a shorter tire which changes handling and reduces gearing as I explained in the video. Some people might like this for the street, but it's not so good at the track. I did a few track days on it and the tire worked fine until it started to slip a little bit, but it was predictable.
My current tire is the new Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa II which comes in the proper 200/60 size (FINALLY!!!). It's probably the ideal tire for this bike for street and track days. I did the YCRS school on these and they stuck well enough to match my max speed at the end of the straight that I was getting with slicks (and a few new skills courtesy of the school). So they are good. And cheaper than OEM!
My next set of tires will be Dunlop Moto America slicks which are 200/60 but have a very different profile and slightly different tire height. I got them as lightly used take offs from the only guy racing a Ducati in Moto America!
