Both harpsichords and Baroque guitars had soundholes decorated with roses. The material used for this decoration might surprise you: multiple layers of parchment, made from sheep's skin. See how the many layers come together in this video featuring Elena Dal Cortivo, a master rose maker.
This video is one of a series created with videographer, Gavin Turnball, for use in our 'Discovery Drawers' in the Wolfson Gallery at St Cecilia's Hall.
