Share Bazaar aur Budget 2026:The stock market was not pleased with this year's budget. During the volatile trading session on Budget Day, the stock market witnessed heavy selling. By the time the market closed, the Sensex had plummeted by a massive 1,843.43 points to 80,722.94, while the Nifty fell by 593.45 points to 24,825. A major reason behind the market decline was the announcement of an increase in the Securities Transaction Tax (STT). This came as a shock to those trading in Futures and Options (F&O). The sharp increase in STT brought the stock market to its knees. Following Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's announcement, approximately ₹10 lakh crore was wiped off the total market capitalization. However, there were other contributing factors as well.
