Hey Guys! Welcome and in today’s video, I’ll discuss about how nuclear fission reactors work and what happens during nuclear fission?
A nuclear power plant's core is its nuclear reactors. A nuclear reactor is powered by the fission of atoms, which occurs when a neutron is fired at an atom, causing it to split into two smaller atoms and additional neutrons. Some of the released neutrons then strike other atoms, causing them to fission and release further neutrons. We call this a chain reaction.
During the chain reaction, the fissioning of atoms releases a significant quantity of energy as heat. A circulating fluid, often water, is used to remove the produced heat from the reactor. This heat can then be utilized to produce steam, which drives turbines that produce energy.
Reactors are equipped with devices that accelerate, delay, or shut down the nuclear reaction and the heat it generates in order to ensure that it occurs at the appropriate rate. This is commonly accomplished with control rods comprised of neutron-absorbing materials such as silver and boron.
There are numerous sizes and designs of nuclear reactors; some utilize water to cool their cores, while others employ gas or liquid metal. More than ninety percent of the world's reactors are water-based, the most common form of generating reactors.
Nuclear reactors are extremely dependable in generating electricity, as they may operate nonstop for months, if not years, regardless of the weather or season. Additionally, the vast majority of nuclear reactors may typically operate for over 60 years.
