"Well it's funny, because I guess we're taught to be suspicious and wary of journalists because they're always trying to find out dirt on us. But I have to say, I went and shadowed some girls at the LA Times for a while while I was researching the movie and I was mainly struck by how similar actually, (it is). It's (journalism) a very vocational, both of them are very vocational professions. You kind of eat, drink, live, breathe your work and you hang out with a lot of people who do the same kind of job, and you're up all night worrying about it. You have to be ready to go at a moment's notice to do anything. It's very disruptive on your family life. There seem to be a lot of similarities, that's what struck me more than the differences to be honest with you."

"Yet, it's a very exciting story the way it's told. It's a very important issue to us in the United States - should you be able to jail journalists if they do not tell you the source of their story. But if they reveal the source, then their sources will dry up and they won't have as many stories to tell. That's especially dangerous if the government is the story."

"I wasn't interested necessarily in making a polemic. I have to say the fact that the movie is socially responsible, interesting, relevant is fantastic and it's definitely a factor, but I really responded to the character more than anything."

STORYLINE:
BECKINSALE TELLS THE TRUTH IN TORONTO
The red carpet came to life Monday night (8 Sep 2208) at the Toronto International Film Festival as Kate Beckinsale's new film, 'Nothing But the Truth' held its premiere.
In the film, Beckinsale plays an American journalist that uncovers the identity of a CIA operative, and when she fails to reveal her source, she is thrown in jail.
Kate said she was drawn to role more for the characters than the film's controversial topic, but was happy that it worked out that way.
