Election Commission Voter List Row | CEC Gyanesh Kumar | Rahul Gandhi | Goa Voter List | SIR Row

Описание: Who controls India’s voter list? Is it the officer who hears a voter’s case on ground or the centralised system that controls the electoral database? A new investigation by The Indian Express, reported by Ritika Chopra, has brought an internal dispute within the Election Commission of India into focus. According to the investigation, Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi raised objections on record at least 14 times over 10 months, including concerns about the centralisation of electoral-roll processes and the functioning of ECINet, the Election Commission’s IT platform. The most concrete example comes from Goa, where 97 voters were reportedly found eligible for restoration by Electoral Registration Officers, but the software did not provide the local officers with a way to reverse the earlier deletions. The Election Commission has rejected the broader interpretation of the investigation, saying that differing views and internal observations are normal and that decisions over the past year were taken unanimously by the full Commission.
