Norbert Torres quietly made his return for the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in Sunday’s 106-99 overtime victory over Meralco after being out for more than three weeks due to a stabbing incident that also involved Alaska rookie Jeron Teng and former La Salle teammate Thomas Torres.
Torres, who sustained a cut on his left arm, went scoreless while adding five rebounds in 18 minutes, seeing action late in the overtime period of the contest that gave the Elasto Painters the first twice-to-beat advantage in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup quarterfinals.
“It took a while before I could come back fully 100 percent confident kasi siyempre, I still have to be aware that I have a cut,” said Torres.
The 28-year-old was with Teng and Thomas Torres when they took part in a melee that saw one of the two suspects carrying a ring knife at a parking lot in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig last June 3.
Teng and Thomas Torres, who was supposed to see action for Mandaluyong in the MPBL, are still in the process of making a complete recovery after suffered deep cuts to their bodies.
Norbert’s return has given Rain or Shine an added depth in the middle behind hulking import Reggie Johnson, Raymond Almazan and Beau Belga.
