Westminster Castle aka Pillar of Fire, Westminster, CO

Описание: 4-28-18. Video from the Westminster Castle, aka, The Pillar of Fire. Westminster, CO. Built in 1893, this fabulous, at times seemingly ominous structure was created to be “The Princeton of the West.” Westminster University opened in 1908. It went through some tough times between its conception and the time the church bought it. In 1920 the Pillar of Fire Church acquired the castle and surrounding property. The Pillar of Fire began their broadcasts 1928 and I believe that makes it the longest continuous such broadcast in radio history. They are considered the Granddaddy of Christian radio broadcasters. The reason they allowed us in for the tour is they were celebrating their 90th anniversary on air. The building is made from red sandstone from what is now the Red Rocks/Manitou area. It was pretty cool going inside and we got to the top of the tower (sorry, lots of going up the stairs video), inside the auditorium, down to the basement, see the office of the President and into the broadcast studio as they were actually on air. There are rumors that the place is haunted. The Westminster Historic Society had a living history event going on on the grounds that day too. I couldn't help but wonder how differently the place would feel in the dark of night. The place has always carried a mysterious air in my mind.
