Women Media Representation

Описание: Gender stereotypes have been present in the media for decades. They can portray harmful beliefs on how the genders should interact and behave in society. The film by Sofia Coppola called the The Virgin Suicides (1999) is set the late 1970’s America, this movie shows the traditional gender roles enforced by some of the characters while the protagonist, Lux Lisbon, tries to break them out. This theme is seen again in the movie by Gil Junger 10 Things I Hate About You (1999), and the movie by Amy Poehler Moxie (2021) which also gives a perspective on feminism in the 90’s while also being set in 2021. In these three films, the main character is forced to fit into a traditional female gender stereotype in which they clearly do not fit into, as a consequence to this, they all decide to reject the stereotypes in different ways. These movies provide an example on how the traditional gender roles and stereotypes are protected in young women.
