"The message of the Islamic Jihad movement today is about the commitment to our right to resistance, to our right to Palestine, and the refusal to recognize this entity (Israel). It is about our rejection of any solution that leads to recognition of the legitimacy of the occupier, about our commitment to resistance, staying in the line of fire and the rejection of all forms of normalization and coordination with this occupier. This occupier is an enemy, a usurper of our land and our people. It must come to an end."

STORYLINE:
Thousands of supporters of Palestinian Islamic Jihad, the territory's second-largest militant group, marched in Gaza City on Thursday to mark the 35th anniversary of the founding of the organization.
The huge rally showcased support for Islamic Jihad in the crowded enclave of 2.3 million Palestinians, turning the streets of Gaza City into a swarm of the group's black and yellow flags.
Islamic Jihad also displayed for the first time its rocket launchers, which have been used to fire missiles toward Israel in the past.
Israel's archenemy Iran supplies Islamic Jihad with training, expertise and money, but most of the group's weapons are locally produced.
Islamic Jihad is the smaller of the two main Palestinian militant groups in the Gaza Strip, and is vastly outnumbered by the ruling Hamas group.
In August, the group fought in a brief conflict with Israel that killed dozens of Palestinians, including key militant leaders as well as children.
The three days of violence damaged and destroyed scores of homes and buildings in Gaza, which has been under Israeli-Egyptian blockade for 15 years.
The blockade was imposed after Hamas overran Gaza in 2007.
Hamas has since fought four wars with Israel and keeps a hidden arsenal of thousands of rockets.
However, as the de facto civilian government, Hamas remained on the sidelines of the latest outburst of violence with Israel, highlighting its differences with Islamic Jihad.
Israel and Western countries consider both Hamas and Islamic Jihad to be terrorist groups because they have carried out scores of deadly attacks over the years targeting Israeli civilians.
Many Palestinians view the militants as freedom fighters resisting Israel's military occupation of lands the Palestinians want for their future state.
