loosening knots - live ambient set

Live ambient set on the TE OP-XY, Monome Norns, and modular synth.

I had the privilege of playing the Sonic Rodeo experimental sound festival (https://www.sonicrodeo.org/) last year in Marfa, TX. My first fully solo set in a few years, I took the opportunity to try out a few different ideas that have been percolating for the last few years:

an abstract interpretation of my own songs (inspired by this piece:    • By This River (Modular Cover) - Modular No...  )
work with are-contextualized, high-frequency heavy field recordings
make extensive use of ‪@ululo_sounds‬ _awed script for the Monome Norns, described as a 'harmonic series aggregator' but a deeply expressive and playable instrument far beyond that

For that second point, it was important for me to work with recordings that were woven into the creation of the piece itself, and what you hear is the sound of the West Texas desert night, captured directly via the mic on the OP-XY on the evening before the performance, from the porch of the trailer I slept in for the night.

Audio for that performance was released on an amazing compilation of the fest from CIA Records (link below). However I felt I still wasn't quite done with the piece and decided to perform it again for Me Mer Mo Monday's 10th anniversary show, and finally as a recording at home. This is the captured performance of that home recording.
