In this continuing series looking at classic cookbooks, we take a look at various editions of the Fannie Farmer - Boston Cooking School Cookbook in this episode. Fannie Merritt Farmer (1857-1915) authored the "Boston Cooking School Cook Book" in 1896, which is still in print after 130 years. Farmer, who was especially interested in the nutritional values of food, explained the cause and effect of chemical changes that take place while cooking and baking, and more importantly, she helped to standardize measurements in recipes. This cookbook was a game-changer in many ways when it was introduced, and for the 1965 edition, the title of the book was changed to the "Fannie Farmer Cookbook."
