Why is the Indian Army conducting intense counter-terror operations in the dense forests of Jammu and Kashmir? Operation Trashi offers a sharp insight into India’s evolving internal security challenges.
Launched by the White Knight Corps in the Kishtwar district, the operation is based on precise intelligence inputs about terrorists hiding in remote, heavily forested, and mountainous terrain. The objective is clear — detect, track, and neutralise terrorists before they can strike or escape.
Security forces are using the cordon and search strategy, sealing all exit routes while systematically combing difficult terrain marked by steep slopes, thick forests, low visibility, and harsh weather. Joint coordination between the Army and other security agencies, backed by real-time surveillance and intelligence, is a key feature of the operation.
The mission highlights the high-risk nature of counter-terrorism, with casualties reported during the operation, underlining the sacrifices made in safeguarding internal security.
👉 UPSC Relevance:
Highly important for GS Paper 3 — Internal Security, Terrorism, Counter-Insurgency Operations, and Security Forces in Border Areas.
