(6 Feb 2019) Democrat Stacey Abrams, in Atlanta, delivered the Democratic response to President Trump's State of the Union address on Tuesday night.
Abrams defended immigration, saying that immigrants, not walls, make the country stronger. She also said the Trump administration "chooses to cage children and tear families apart."
Abrams also defended voting rights and said "we must reject the cynicism that says allowing every eligible vote to be cast and counted is a "power grab."
Abrams also said that while she is disappointed in President Trump's approach to the nation's problems, she doesn't want him to fail. "But we need him to tell the truth, and to respect his duties and the extraordinary diversity that defines America," she added.
Abrams narrowly lost the election for Governor of Georgia last November.
