Описание: 9th Annual Howard Rock & Ted Stevens Smokehouse Gala Indigenous Artist in Action Spotlights: Ukisqaq Gage Sholl (Sugpiaq/Alutiiq) and Agasuuq Hanna Sholl (Sugpiaq/Alutiiq).

Hanna Sholl's Sugpiaq (Alutiiq) name is Agasuuq, which means cormorant. She was born in Kodiak, AK to Sophie Frets (Hansen) and Bruce Burns. Her maternal grandparents were Walter and Edna Hansen. She introduces herself in this way to honor her ancestry, homelands, and relationships, each of which informs her art. Her artwork hopes are to always honor the resistance and creativity of our Ancestors, combining contemporary with traditional methods. Currently she is working with skin sewing, clay, acrylic paint, woodcarving, weaving, beading, mixed media and photography. Her intention is to have the works she creates speak back to those who came to our homelands and described our Ancestors in racist and negative ways. She also hopes that it will speak to our people, a reminder that being strong and independent has always been part of our culture, and still is.
Gage Sholl is a carver and carves traditional and modernized Sugpiaq paddles. His teachers and mentors are Sven Haakanson, Jr. and Jim Dillard. Together, Hanna and Gage have four children, and they are in the Kodiak Alutiiq Dance Group.
