This species is best known for its loud, sharp calls heard during early mornings and evenings, often before the bird is actually seen. Black Francolins feed on seeds, grains, shoots, insects, and small invertebrates, playing an important role in the rural ecosystem. Usually shy and secretive, they prefer running through vegetation rather than flying, taking short bursts of flight only when disturbed.
