"We have lived in Charlotte for two years now, and every time they talked about having a snow, it usually was a dusting. So to see the snow come down and have inches on inches, it was a really big surprise, and my kids were so tickled pink about it. And so it was, it was a good surprise actually for us."

"Our water heater had, frozen."

"We took my Dyson hair dryer, so that was a survival skill no one really told us about, and use an extension cord to de-thaw it and once we saw the water come through, we heard that the heater had kicked back on. So we were without heat for a couple hours, but after we de-thawed that line, it started working again for us."

"Last weekend we all stocked up and this weekend we weren't as worried, but then it was a lot snowier. It's OK, we haven't lost power or anything. That was what we were really worried about. Yeah, and the kids have loved the snow, so that's been nice for us."

"I'm kind of flexi-working right now, so I just managed to move my days later in the week, and it's just kind of a bonus, right? It's like making memories with the kids and if you don't have the snow days now you have them later in the year, so at least they're kind of going for the right thing. Yeah, we've had a good time and, it's my young one's first snow, so yeah, it's been OK."

STORYLINE:
Forecasters warned that dangerous extra-cold conditions will persist for a huge swath of the U.S. from the Gulf Coast into New England.
There were hundreds of weekend flight cancellations to North Carolina, snow flurries and falling iguanas in Florida, and more misery for thousands who are still without power from last month's ice storm in the South.
In Charlotte, North Carolina, people got a chance to play in the snow with their young kids, including some seeing their first big snow ever.
Florida experienced its coldest air mass since 1989. Windchills near zero are expected in many states again Monday.
