The field of application for cranes encompasses nearly all areas of logistics from indoor cranes to the ship-to-store variety. Requirements for crane positioning systems range from dirt, shock and vibration resistance to salt water resistance. The POMUX KHK53 linear encoder was designed specifically for such environmental conditions. It is used to position the crab on the crane and to position the track system of the crane. For cranes that are not rail mounted, an incremental encoder such as the DFS60 can be used to detect the travel speed. For height positioning of the gripper, the absolute multiturn encoder A3M60 PROFIBUS is used. In addition, an absolute singleturn encoder is used to measure how far the gripper is open.
