I was able to check out the moderator at Interlude in Utah earlier this year in some fresh conditions. The moderator is a unisex board, and has sizes ranging from 144 to 165 wide. The moderator is a directional slightly setback ripper with a medium flex. It has a slight amount of taper and has an extra camber profile (more camber between the feet!) and it has a little bit of rocker towards the nose and a flat camber section towards the tail.
This board will float well in powder and it gives you an extra amount of pop on ollies with the flat camber section towards a tail. It makes for lively and really fun ride, and even though this is a directional board don’t be afraid to ride it switch. Laying down drawn out carves on groomers are effortless and you'll be able to make the entire mountain a freestyle playground. It really rides well over any natural terrain.
The moderator has Ride's tapered linear quadratic sidecut which is designed for effortless turn initiation and powerful grip that’s also forgiving. It also has their urethane slim wall construction, which is basically vibration damping built for a smooth ride and it also has a strong sintered base. Ride suggests riding your normal length, and I agree, although you can go up a few centimeters if you want, but it's not needed.
Overall Impressions:
I had so much fun on the moderator. I really didn’t want to stop riding it. If you’re looking for a board that’s geared towards intermediate to advanced riders and looking for one board to ride in almost any terrain at your local mountain the moderator is a great board to check out. It’s forgiving and fun right out of the gate. This season Ride added in new graphics that are 90s inspired on the topsheet and base. Check out the ride moderator it’s got a lot to offer for a one board quiver.
