You will see Oyster Perpetual on the dial of almost every single Rolex ever made. There is a model called the Rolex Oyster Perpetual.
However, why is this? What is Oyster Perpetual on a Rolex?
Well, we need to break this down into two separate terms as they each mean something different.
First off, let's look at oyster. This term was debuted in 1927 to describe the water proofing that Rolex has added to their watches. Rolex was actually one of the first companies to sell water proof watches to the public.
Thus, any Rolex that you see with Oyster on the dial is water resistant.
What about Rolex Perpetual though? Well, this is what Rolex uses to identify automatic watches that use a rotating weight and your arms movement to wind the watch. This term was debuted in 1931.
Thus, when you have a waterproof, automatic Rolex, you get Oyster Perpetual on the dial.
From the Submariner to the Daytona to the Air King and everything in between, pretty much every modern Rolex model has Oyster Perpetual on the dial, and now, you know what it means.
