YugabyteDB Aeon deployment training focuses on learning how to provision and operate fully managed YugabyteDB clusters in the cloud. Trainees learn to sign up for YugabyteDB Aeon, create free Sandbox clusters, choose cloud providers and regions, configure IP allow lists, download credentials, and connect applications to the database. The training typically covers core lifecycle tasks such as deploying single-node Sandbox clusters for development, understanding how Aeon bootstraps and configures clusters, and using Aeon’s management UI for monitoring and basic operations.
More structured learning about Aeon and cloud deployments is available through Yugabyte University courses (for example, YugabyteDB Aeon Basics and related labs) that use browser-based interactive environments to practice connecting to and working with managed clusters – Continue learning
YugabyteDB offers flexible deployment options, primarily categorized into YugabyteDB Aeon (fully managed DBaaS) and self-managed deployments using the open-source YugabyteDB software. YugabyteDB Aeon is the current name for the managed service previously known as YugabyteDB Managed.
YugabyteDB Deployment Types
YugabyteDB provides a unified product with multiple deployment models based on who manages the infrastructure and operations.
YugabyteDB Aeon (Fully Managed): A Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) where Yugabyte manages all operations, deployment, scaling, and recovery on major public clouds (AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud). This allows users to focus on application development rather than database administration.
Aeon BYOC (Bring Your Own Cloud): A variation that enables deployment within a customer's own cloud environment (VPC), while still benefiting from Yugabyte's managed services and automation.
YugabyteDB Anywhere (Self-Managed Orchestration): A commercial product (previously part of "Yugabyte Platform") that provides orchestration software for customers to manage YugabyteDB clusters in their own private or public cloud environments (on-premises VMs, public clouds, or Kubernetes).
Open Source YugabyteDB (Manual): The core YugabyteDB database software is 100% open source and free to use. Users can manually install and manage clusters on their own infrastructure, including bare metal, VMs, or Kubernetes, using the provided binaries and configuration tools.
YugabyteDB Versions
YugabyteDB versioning is managed through different release tracks in YugabyteDB Aeon:
Production Track: Has less frequent updates, using select stable builds that have undergone extensive testing in YugabyteDB Aeon.
Innovation Track: Updated more frequently, providing quicker access to newer features and enhancements.
Early Access Track: Provides access to the most recent stable YugabyteDB release.
Specific version numbers, such as 2024.2 for the stable release or 2025.2 for a preview release, are mentioned in documentation and change logs, with automated, non-disruptive upgrades handled within the Aeon service. The core database remains 100% open source.
