#overthetopww1 #overthetop Over The Top WW1 isn’t quite arcade like Battlefield. It’s not fully tactical like Squad or Hell Let Loose. It sits somewhere in between — and that’s exactly what makes it unique.
The proximity chat creates some of the funniest and most immersive roleplay moments I’ve seen in a WW1 game. Players naturally throw themselves into character, shouting orders, charging trenches, and embracing the chaos. In a coordinated group, this game is a riot.
At the same time:
Gunplay feels inconsistent and sometimes random
Classes don’t impact the battlefield as much as they should
Weapons are limited (no gunsmith system)
Perks eventually become meaningless
Objectives can feel confusing
Navigation would benefit massively from a mini-map
Where OTT truly shines is environmental destruction. Unlike Battlefield-style destruction that looks good but changes little, in Over The Top WW1 you can flatten an entire building. The battlefield evolves constantly — sometimes tactically, sometimes through chaotic artillery fire.
There are missed opportunities too. A tunneller class — capable of digging under enemy positions — could have introduced something completely new to the FPS genre and changed tactical gameplay entirely.
Over The Top WW1 is chaotic, funny, immersive, frustrating, and occasionally brilliant. It’s a jack of all trades, master of none — but unforgettable with the right squad.
If you enjoy:
WW1 games
Destructible environments
Proximity chat chaos
Player-driven roleplay
Squad coordination
Unpredictable battles
Then OTT might be for you.
If you’re looking for pure arcade action or hardcore mil-sim tactics, this may not be it — at least not yet.
Let me know your thoughts in the comments. Have you played Over The Top WW1? Do you think it needs more arcade gunplay or deeper tactical systems?
