Mauritius got its independence from the British on 12th March, 1968. On this day, Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam became the first prime minister of independent Mauritius. Since then, there have been 4 other political leaders who have taken the helm of the nation by becoming the prime minister of the Republic of Mauritius.
