Retired Manly Sea Eagles legend and the first openly gay rugby league player Ian Roberts says he is seeing the conversation surrounding Manly’s pride jersey in a “positive light”.
He said it was “incredibly exciting” when he first heard Manly was going to design a pride jersey, being introduced with the “right intentions”.
“I was surprised up until a few days it had taken this long for there to be pushback,” he said.
“It’s probably not the way we wanted this conversation to start, but we’re having this conversation now.”
