Julie Brown CSci CChem MRSC is a technical Scientist at United Utilities, providing water and sewage servics in the North West of England. Scientists at their lab are committed to improving water quality.
The Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) introduced guidleines that meant scientists workling in the water industry now need to have chartered status. Julie describes to us how important the help the Royal Society of Chemistry's help studying for her chartered status qualification has been.
Through working with the Royal Society of Chemistry towards gaining this qualification, Julie says that her confidence at work has improved dramatically and she now feels more comfortable working with senior colleagues and is seen by other staff members as someone who can help and advise them.
Attending events and conferences has provided networking opportunities that Julie would have had if she was not a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry, meeting people from academia and local industry and making connections with other scientists in the water industry to support each other and share ideas. Through these connections they are able to work together to improve processes.
