A child's first experiences with reading and writing can often be one of the most challenging tasks in child development, requiring hours of time and patience. However, "Pinchi and the Alphabet" (2013), an educational cartoon movie available on DVD, makes this process rapid, enjoyable, and effortless.
"Pinchi" is the result of three years of research on early childhood education and has proven to be a highly effective method for teaching children without adult intervention or influence. Designed for children of all ages, this cartoon employs the latest educational techniques to cater to the modern child's psychological development by integrating educational strategies with art, environment, rhythm, humor, music, poetry, tone dynamics, and storytelling through multimedia.

This project is a brainchild of Janaki Sooriyarachchi, a multifaceted award-winning children's author, artist, and creative child educationist, who began writing at the age of 8 years. "Pinchi" marks her debut in cartoon animation, resulting in a remarkable production recognized as one of the most innovative and successful works for teaching children their first language globally. Janaki completed the entire creative process; including concept development, scriptwriting, teaching strategies, lyrics, melodies, illustrations, tone dynamics, rehearsing, and directing; within her small home studio, using limited resources and technology, alongside a team of animation students.

This educational research movie, which is also a musical, is the first of its kind in Sri Lanka and has received wide appreciation from parents, teachers, educators, and child psychologists both in Sri Lanka and abroad. What began as a passion project became a significant milestone in her creative career as well. Furthermore, it has cultivated a growing admiration for the gradually diminishing Sinhalese language among the younger generation in the country.

Spanning 106 minutes, the film not only captures the playful spirit of children but also enhances emotional intelligence (EQ) nurturing essential qualities such as love, compassion, sensitivity, empathy, courage, perseverance, and patriotism; qualities vital for personality development in children, early in life.
