STORYLINE
Scores of Hezbollah rockets continued to rain down on northern Israel on Friday, hitting at least five border towns and injuring six people.
The barrage came hours after Hezbollah managed to strike Israel's third largest city, Haifa.
Thursday's attack on Haifa, the deepest target Hezbollah has ever hit in Israel, increased the sense of public insecurity in Israel and put pressure on the military to step up their offensive in Lebanon.
From a base in the port city, the Israeli navy stepped up its naval blockade of its northern neighbour and a submarine was seen in the harbour on Friday.
This latest cross-border violence began on Wednesday when Hezbollah militants captured two Israeli soldiers.
Israel's desire to exact a price for the abduction and the militants' insistence on a prisoner swap in return for their freedom likely means that the captured soldiers - Ehud Goldwasser, 31 and Eldad Regev, 26 - will not be coming home any time soon.
In Regev's home town, Kiryat Motzkin, near Haifa, there was mounting concern for his safety on Friday.
Buildings in the town have been plastered with posters expressing support for the soldier's family and one resident said the crisis had a big impact on the local community.
There was similar concern in Nahariya, home to the other captured soldier and target of several Hezbollah rockets.
But as shoppers there prepared for the Sabbath, one elderly resident said it was important to show the militants Israel was not afraid.
