Allen noted the influence of the UK's newly released critical minerals strategy and highlighted a growing presence from governments, which she said is “really exciting” and driving forward momentum in the sector.

She stressed that trust, transparency and collaboration remain essential, particularly for permitting, and observed a continued rise in sustainability expectations, especially from investors. Allen explained, “I don’t know any investment funds now that don’t have ESG requirements … it really supports you in terms of your cost narrative. It does de-risk your project, so why would you not do it?”

SLR, a sustainability solutions company, is benefiting from this trend. The recent integration of Wardell Armstrong, acquired in October 2024, has also been a major step. Allen described the cultural and operational merger as a “brilliant journey” with strong support from the SLR team.

Looking ahead, she outlined growth areas such as critical minerals, mine closure, and tailings. Expansion into Central Asia through its Almaty office in Kazakhstan has also opened up new opportunities for the business.
